Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of Echobird ("we", "us", "the service"), a language-shadowing app operated by an individual based in Taiwan. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. The service

Echobird helps you practise language shadowing: you add sentences, we generate native-sounding audio, and you listen and repeat. Features and limits may change as the service develops.

2. Your account

• You must provide a valid email address and keep your sign-in method secure.
• You are responsible for activity that happens under your account.
• You must be at least 16 years old to use the service. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has agreed to these Terms on your behalf.
• One person per account; do not create accounts to abuse free limits.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• break the law, or use the service to create unlawful or harmful content;
• attempt to bypass usage limits, credits, or security measures;
• disrupt, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the service;
• resell or redistribute the service or its generated audio as your own product.

We may suspend or remove accounts that break these rules.

4. Your content

You keep ownership of the sentences and notes you create. To run the service, you grant us a limited licence to store, process, and convert your sentences into audio.

Note that generated audio is cached by a fingerprint of the text, and identical sentences may be reused across accounts. Do not enter private or sensitive information as practice sentences.

5. Plans and credits

The service currently offers a free plan with a monthly limit on the number of sentences you can create. Paid plans are not yet available. We may change plans, limits, and pricing in the future, and will give notice of significant changes where reasonable.

6. Intellectual property

The service, including its design, code, and branding, belongs to us. The synthesised voices are provided through Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and remain subject to Google's terms. These Terms do not give you any right to our branding or the underlying technology.

7. Third-party services

The service relies on third-party providers (listed in our Privacy Policy). We are not responsible for the availability or actions of those providers, though we choose them carefully.

8. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will produce any particular learning outcome.

9. Limitation of liability

To the extent allowed by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

10. Termination

You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time from Settings → Profile → Delete account. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or if we stop offering the service.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make a significant change, we will update the date at the top and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Any dispute will be handled by the courts of Taiwan, unless mandatory law in your country of residence provides otherwise.
